2003/970 Georgetown, Washington DC Mantel c.1800-1820

Unavailable
To a fine quality small soft pine fireplace mantelpiece having a richly coved arcaded shelf above a 3/4 round supporting member. The mantel frieze is mounted with three stop fluted and reeded tablets. Interesting to note, the reeds are fabricated of mahogany inlaid singly. The tablets are mounted above and below with belt courses, the top course having fluted dentilation and the bottom a moulded section. The mantel jambs or legs have stop fluting matching the tablets but without the inlay. These are footed on plain plinths. The hearth surround has a bull nosed trim section. This smaller mantel has the advantage of a wide opening and would work well with today's lower ceiling heights. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
