To central Conneticut neoclassic fireplace mantelpiece of the 1800-1815 period. The plain frieze has two projected tablets to the ends which have incised reeded diamonds. Above the frieze is a course of reeded detilation and a large cove supporting the moulded shelf having two projected ends and a central bowed center. The mantel jambs or legs are mounted with reeded pilasters that are footed on applied plinths.The hearth opening is surrounded by a richly moulded section below a moulded belt course which crosses the frieze. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
