2002/939 Bucks County Chipped Carved Mantel c.1790-1810

Unavailable
To a fine and rare early 19th c. Bucks County, Pennsylvania soft pine fireplace mantelpiece. This example retains all of the original gouge carving, including swags and finely developed oval paterea to three applied tablets to the mantel frieze. The stepped and arcaded shelf is supported by a course of finely detailed detilation. The mantel jambs or legs are mounted with reeded applied pilasters, having stepped capitals and plinths. The hearth opening has punch and gouge trim around fine moulding. This mantel is a tour-de-force of American folk art decoration dating from the 1790-1810 period. It is rare to find elaboration of this quality on a smaller mantel. This mantel has been cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
