To a fine and rare Hudson valley carved fireplace mantelpiece. Constructed of clear pine. The mantel shelf has a bowed center section with two projected ends. The frieze is mounted with three applied tablets containing rich neoclassic fan and star carving. Between the tablets are incised full web fans. All fans have apex acorn carved devices. The frieze is supported by a belt course. The hearth opening has a similar course to the top. Between the two belts are applied diamond and lozenge cut work. The mantel jambs are mounted with moulded pilasters footed on projected plinths. This rich mantel is in the English Adams' manner as interpreted by the Dutch from New York City to Albany for rich mansion homes. And originally had stone or marble facings to the hearth opening. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantel should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
