2000/902 Central New Jersey Chip Carved Mantel, c.1790

Unavailable
To a good quality central New Jersey yellow pine mantelpiece having a rich course of gouge carving below the stepped shelf. The mantel has a crossetted corner moulding which foots two projected tablets to the frieze. The form of the mantel dates to the mid 1700s, but the neoclassic chip carving dates to the late 18th or early 19th century. This holdover of forms is interesting and usual in country environments. The mantel also has restored projected plinths that foot the trim. The hearth has a mould surround trim section. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantel should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
