From our collection of over 150 antique fireplace mantelpieces: To a fine and rare white pine Hudson Valley hand carved fireplace mantelpiece. The blocked mantel shelf has a central incised bowed surface with moulding to the top. Below, mounted to the frieze are three applied tablets all richly carved with stylized fans. The central tablet is further enriched with fan spandrels and raised center. Between the tablets are incised fans and spandrels. Above the frieze is a course of running rope moulding and below is a richly carved band course with snow flakes and horizontal fan paterae. The mantel jambs or legs are mounted with moulded pilasters footed on projected stepped plinths. The mantel legs have been restored to approximately their original height. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
