To a white pine fireplace mantelpiece of the c.1810- period. The moulded shelf is supported by various mouldings including a knife edge section. The pain frieze is crossed by a moulded belt course which forms the exterior trim to the mantel jambs or legs. This mantel displays earlier moulding sections as found outside major cites which were an interesting survival. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
