2000/880 Maryland Pine two panel mantel. C. 1815-1830
Unavailable
To good quality Maryland late federal fireplace mantelpiece. This example is constructed of long grain pine and the frieze is developed with two sunken panels in the earlier school wainscot. The mantel shelf is moulded, below is a moulded section which surrounds the mantel and is footed on project moulded plinths. The mantel opening is surrounded by a beaded trim. Interesting to note the mortised pins which join the mantel are visible and show early American construction techniques. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
