19th Century Ornate Antique Brass Bed

Unavailable
Antique brass beds were crafted in the Victorian Age during the reign of Queen Victoria, from 1837 to 1901. They first appeared in England in the 1820s and made their way to America in the 1850s. Antique beds, in contrast to modern reproductions, produced only single and double beds. The most expensive antique brass beds are in good condition, feature all brass and have ornate scrollwork and carvings. Brass beds in poor condition usually reflect metals other than brass and have little ornamentation.

This brass bed was cast by hand, including scrolls and curves. The elaborate ornamentation includes cornices, or molded crowns, on horizontal bars. Headboards and footboards have vertical as well as horizontal lines. The detailed head and footboard's scrollwork is in very fine condition. There appears to be no restoration and it is in good condition given the age. There are a few dings and scratches which give the bed added character but overall it is in good condition. Dimensions are: 74" L x 48" W. Headboard measures 48" W x 40" H and footboard measures 48" W x 18" H.
