This antique marble statue that depicts the famous image of the reclining Buddha. Buddhists believe that the Lord Buddha reclined in this pose as he meditated on spiritual enlightenment. As Buddha was meditating, his body grew to be many times his normal size to scare off Mara (devil/ evil forces) This image of Buddha is deep in meditation, and embodies the Ancient Buddhist ideals of peace, blessing and serenity. Buddha's face is very pleasing in deep meditation with the eyes cast downward. Buddha's face has a serene and peaceful expression. The elongated ears lobes indicate knowledge and wisdom. The earlobes curve slightly outwards where they touch the shoulders. This is a museum quality statue. This Thai Buddha is offered by the famous Wat Pho Temple in Bangkok, Thailand. This image of the Lord Buddha is based on a design orginally created in 1845.
