To a fine quality white pine fireplace mantelpiece of the c.1790-1810 period. This mantel was reported to have been removed from a farmhouse in the Birdsboro, Pennsylvania area. The mantel shelf has three projections agreeing with applied tablets to the frieze. Above the tablets is a rich course of dentilation and the tablets are richly carved in folk art gouge carving. The tablets are footed on a belt course which also forms capitals for the fluted applied pilasters to the legs or jambs. The pilasters are footed on projected plinths. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
