To a fine and rare Vermont Neo-Classic white pine fireplace mantelpiece of the ciraca 1790-1810 period. The serpentine and bow shaped shelf has fluting to the front edge. Below is a course of punched dentil which is stopped by a center frieze tablet carved with an oval center device. The end frieze tablets are fluted and form capitals for vase form pilasters with running rope mouldings. These are footed on plinths. The hearth trim is reeded and centered by a running rope device.The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
