To a country hard pine fireplace mantelpiece from Micklenberg County, Virginia. The mantel dates from the 1780 period. The mantel retains the early Georgian influence, including a Ogee ended frieze board mounted with pulvinated center member. Also to the frieze are a course of incised dentils nad stop fluted members. The mantels is also decorated with rich moulded sections, including the shelf support and hearth surround trim. The top of the mantel opening is arched as found in early mantels. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantel should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
