From our collection of over 150 early American fireplace mantelpieces; To a wainscot hard pine Virginia fireplace mantelpiece of the circa 1790-1810 period. This example retains feeling of the early 18th Century mantels as translated in the later period. The reference being the flat panels and projected mantel shelf. An unusual and rare mantel. Below the mantel shelf are various mouldings above a frieze which contains five panels. The mantel legs or jambs are also mounted with panels. All panels have thumbnail moulding. The mantel perimeter is mounted with an Ogee section. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
