1943 Delightful Vintage Forties Ad- Wine from California Makes Hospitality Complete- Sundblom Artwork. Utterly Sweet Original Vintage Forties/WW2 Ad taken from the pages of an October, 1943 issue of Life Magazine. Wonderful Graphic image of an evenings refreshing delightful entertainment- a group of friends enjoys the simple pleasures of story-telling amid the warm glow of flavorful delicious new California wines. During the deprivations of World War 2, Americans were taught to appreciate a variety of home-grown goods including a selection of wines in California. Artist Haddon Sunbloom gives this image a fresh lively and yet sweet air- radiant soft lighting and the intimate closeness of a small gathering reminds the viewer of the importance of family, friends and a good if inexpensive local bottle of wine. This ad part of a series created by the Wine Advisory Board is an excellent example of beautiful and emotive illustration meant to convey warmth and charm during the war years. Note the suggestions for serving- Muscatel for refreshment and desert, white Sauterne for a dinner of fish and chicken, rich red Burgundy or Claret with roasts and steaks. Sundbloom gives this illustration his usual delicate touch of warmth, humor and intimacy done at the same time that he created some of his most infamous works for the Coca-Cola company. Ad measures 11 x 15 and is in bright condition overall- will be a wonderful addition to your own collection ideal to add a hint of vintage charm to your dining area!
