This early Mexican silver and amethyst panel bracelet features a line of large amethysts in simple silver collets. The chunky, streamlined design is typical of the Art Deco or early Retro period. The amethysts have deep coloring and make the most of the natural inclusions to achieve a marbled appearance. The cutting style is very distinctive and there is a group of jewelry by an unknown artist using this particular cut and with the amethysts generally arranged in a simple row. The pieces are unattributed and don’t show up often. The back is marked “Silver Mexico”.
Origin: Mexico, ca. 1930-35. Condition: excellent, one collet is loose at the hinge and needs to be touched with solder for retightening (this is apparently a common deficiency in bracelets by this maker); the patina has not been overpolished. Size: 6-7/8” long; 9/16” wide. Weight: 46.9 grams.
