1917 Dainty and Demure Vintage WW1 Lucille Fashion Ad S. Werner Artwork. Simply Wonderful and Elegant Original Vintage WW1 Fashion Ad taken from the pages of a March, 1917 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Lucille or Lady Duff Gordon was a largely self-made woman equally brilliant at fashion design and self-promotion. Known for her flaming red tresses and romantic dresses by 1917 she had begun to market a line of her forcks in the most popular venue in America- the Sears, Roebuck Catalog! Here we see a trio of devastatingly demure and lovely designs with new full shorter skirts hearkening back to the styles of the 1860's each with it's own purple prose type moniker- Joy O' Life, Garden of Roses and intimately My Dearest. These lovely gowns with frills and intricate detailing were the absolute height of fashion in 1917 with a price-tag of $23 to $35.00 each. This illustration has all the delicate charm and grace of the era- note the loose and comfortable shape of Joy o' Life- sporty yet practical enough to dash about doing war relief work in ones smart little auto or even the more common street car. Ad measures 12 x 16- marvelous example of the fashions of the fabulous Lucille! She was also the sister of notorious novelists Elinor Glyn who invented " It" and was among the survivors of the infamous Titanic disaster. Wonderful bit of history that will be stunning on display as well.
