1916 Superb Vintage Jazz Age Ad- Simplex Automobile Leads the Style Parade- Louis Fancher Cadet Artwork. Absolutely Gorgeous Rare Original Vintage Jazz Age Ad taken from the pages of a September, 1916 issue of Life Magazine. Created with the inimitable artistry and sophisticated beauty of Louis Fancher, this rare ad has much to recommend it. Fancher was one of several artist/illustrators who altered the direction of commercial work, leading it towards the sleek modernism of Art Deco. Beautifully blending color, texture and perspective, Fancher brings a subtle sense of glamour and sophistry to this image, reminding the viewer that war is on the horizon merely by showcasing a cadet-parade approaching in the distance. Note the lush yet unusual color scheme- the Simplex Touring Auto is a bright dazzling shade of mustard gold with accents of deep plum and tires trimmed in dove gray- all of which stand out against the white and blue of the dress parade and dark green trees in the hushed lavender twilight. This is an extraordinary example of just how elegant and elevated commercial artwork had become by the early days of the Jazz Age. At the bottom of the page is a colorful symbol for the product, a bold eagle with outspread wings holding a flag draped shield- patriotic and dramatic against the stark black background. Fancher was at this time creating ads for Simplex, but concentrating his energies on the all-important War propaganda posters supporting the efforts of the Allied forces- soon to be joined by the Americans. Ad measures 9 x 13 and is in crisp bright condition overall. Rare find which will gloriously enhance any decor!
