Simply Exquisite Original Vintage Art Nouveau Color Magazine Illustration done by Howard Chandler Christy for a 1906 issue of Scribner's Magazine. Wonderfully light, bright and elegantly romantic image created by Christy one of the leading pretty-girl artists of the Art Nouveau period. Artist Christy discovered a penchant for creating beautiful slightly cool yet approachable women in a variety of settings from contemporary to historical and rivaling the works of Gibson at a time when pretty-girl art was of paramount interest to a large viewing populace. This image was done for a short story in a spring, 1906 issue of Scribner's Magazine and is typical of his lovely sense of grandeur romance and charm- a formal couple are having a walk-out at a garden party fete- note her slender figure with it's impossibly minuscule waistline and his stalwart stature- they are also mirrored in the background by a similar image of an older couple with intricate details such as the home in the background and the festive Chinese lanterns in gorgeous array of colors.
