1896 Splendid Rare Vintage Victorian Print The Roof Gardens of New York City- Under the Glass Roof of the Olympia- drawn by T. Dart Walker. Spectacular bit of New York History contained in this beautiful original black and white Pen and ink sketch taken from a copy of Harper's Weekly Magazine. Charming and elegant this is a perfect examp[le of how the elite beat the heat during the sweltering summer days of the late Vicotrian period. The beautiful people of the day flocked to the gayly alluring roof garden theaters an oasis of cool fresh air full of fricolity and fashion over one hundred years ago. Each roof garden kept guests amused with choruses of cuties in scant costumes, refreshing beer, wines and champagne and plenty of socities leading beauties both off stage and on. Artist T. Dart Waalker has captured the lively yet refined atmosphere of the Olympia- complete with stra baotered escorts in perfect evening attire and ladies wielding stunning fans of Japanese originas against the heat. Wonderful example of the art and artifice of New York more than a century ago. Page is in good minus condition with a tear at the bottom which dose not at all affect the summer scene of romance and revelry. Measures 12 x 16 and will be a stunning addition to any decor matted and framed.
