1895 West Virginia Crazy Quilt Lap Robe

Unavailable
Beautiful patchwork crazy quilt lap robe, made in 1895 by Rebecca Stout Lovett of West Virginia. The design of this quilt highlights the jewel tones of pinks, reds, and burgundies. The backing is a pink sateen fabric, and there is no batting. The quilt length varies from about 61.5 to 63 inches; the width varies from about 40 to 42.5 inches. The quilt incorporates silks, velvets, cottons, flannels, brocades, and wools. It appears to have a combination of hand and machine stitching. The pieces are embellished with a variety of fancy needlework stitches in pinks, yellow, and white. The quilt construction consists of 6 squares, each containing a variety of fabric pieces stitched together. The back of the quilt is constructed from 3 pieces: 1 large piece with 2 small pieces on one side. There is obvious fading in the center area of the back. Four of the many front pieces have obvious deterioration, and there are a handful of other pieces that show wear. There are a handful of tiny holes near stitches, as well as some loose threads and some small areas of discoloration. There is a 3 inch area in the seam between the front and the back that has a jagged tear. Please refer to the 4 photographs for general appearance and condition of this charming piece. More close-up photos of the quilt are available upon request. Shipping / packaging will be $10 - $15, based upon the zip code of the buyer.
