1880s WALKING STICK / ART NOUVEAU SILVER FOX HEAD / FRENCH CANE

Unavailable

This wonderful Art Nouveau French walking stick dates from the 1880s and has a (hallmarked) sterling silver handle topped with the head of a young fox with a wreath of oak leaves around his neck. Beautifully and naturalistically carved from silver, the fox pricks up his ears, shows off a thick coat and wears a terrific expression. He looks out steadily with cabochon garnet eyes. The silver handle is comfortable to hold and measures approximately 3-1/2 inches in length. The fox's head is approximately 1-1/4 inches wide from ear to ear. The stepped bamboo shaft is about 1 inch in diameter and terminates in a metal tip. This antique walking stick measures 35-1/2 inches overall and is a great accessory. This clever fox will hopefully become part of your collection of animal and sporting art.
