Rare 1865 Original Alabama draft of an Ordinance regarding the "Institution of Slavery and the Abolition thereof" The first three lines of this 12.5"X8" document is typed "Be it Ordained by the People of the State of Alabama, in Convention assembled, That as the institution of slavery has been destroyed in the State of Alabama, hereafter there shall be neither slavery ." Parts of the second and third line have been crossed out and corrected. Also included is a separate 7.75"x2.75" document with a hand written correction which reads: "Inset after the 3rd word of the 2nd line of the 1st paragraph- the following to wit- Slavery having been destroyed by the army of the united States in advance & occupancy of this state". A very important and insightful document.
