1857 Legal Document filed in Lauderdale County Alabama "Title to Pools negroes". From the sheriff of Lauderdale County detailing orders to seize slaves in order to satisfy a debt. The names and ages of 17 slaves are listed. Partially transcribed "Known all men by these present that I William F Karsner sheriff of the county of Lauderdale and State of Alabama did on the 29th day of October 1856 by virtue of an execution is said by Richard B Baugh clerk of the circuit court of said county on the 28th day of October 1856 in favor of Barber Brannon & Co commanding me of the goods and chattels of Samuel E Young and Daniel W. Long to make the sum of Eleven Hundred and Eighty Eight Dollars and 18 cents besides costs of said levy upon the following negro slaves to wit in the words and figures as follows to wit levies fife on the remainder interest which one of Perkins P. Ball. To wit James pool had the following Negroes and which the said James Pool sold to the said Daniel W Long to wit Arthur an old man Abigail an old woman William aged about 30 years George about 32 years of age Edmond about 34 years of age Nathan 22 years of age Louisa 22 old Delia 25 years old Mark 22 years old Robert 18years old Gilbert 15years Andrew 13 years old Abigail 12 years old Rachel 9 years old Mary 33 years old and her infant child not named Peter 6 years old George Ann 4 years old Elizabeth 3 years old all levied on as the property of Daniel W. Long to the extent of the interest which James Pool had said Negroes as one of the Heirs of said Perkins P. Pool a life estate in said Negroes is vested in Nancy Pool and the remainder interest in the children of said Perkins and said defendant Long being the owner of said interest of James Pool said slaves in the possession of the persons who now have them until the day of the sale October 29th 1856 W. F. Karsner sheriff and the said negroes having been advertised for thirty days in the Florence Gazette .did proceed to sell at the court house door of said county at public outcry to the highest bidder for cash the remainder interest in said slaves as above mentioned and set forth the property of Daniel W. Long and sold to Andrew Blair . Arthur for 25 $ Dollars and Abigail for 11$ Dollars .. do hereby unto said Andrew Blair all interest of the said Daniel W. Long had to and in said Arthur and Abigail" . Signed and sealed W. F. Karsner Sheriff January 7th 1857
