1857 Last will and testament of a man leaving 10 slaves to his father and wife. Gadsden County, Florida March 9, 1857. "In the name of God, amen. I, James B. Morrison of the county of Henry in the State of Alabama being of sound mind but weak in body do make publish and declare this my last will and testament herby revoking all others. After the payment of all my just debts I wish my property disposed of in the following manner I do give and bequeath to my beloved father Richard J Morrison the following named Negroes Patty aged about sixty Candis aged about Thirty-five Ned aged about six Luck aged about twenty-five years and Phoebe aged about eleven years in full satisfaction and discharge of said claim in order that my father may not sustain any loss on account of his parental kindness heretofor displayed toward me I give and bequeath therefore to her my beloved wife Martha Jane Morrison the following named Negroes Betty aged about Fifty-Five Peter aged about fifty Nelly aged about thirty Opaline aged about three years and Maria aged about four months, the two last being the Children of Nelly Four 8"X12" pages document includes March 19th 1857 signed letter of Probate Judge James M Gilchrist A former Major & Brigade Quarter Master of the Florida Militia and veteran of the Seminole Indian Wars. Includes a Court of Probate Gadsen County seal and large State of Florida seal. Document is also signed by Secretary of State Benjamin H Allen.
