1857 Alabama Grand Jury Subpoena for a slave charged with murder. Mobile County, June 1st 1857. "State of Alabama vs. Godfrey (boy slave)". Godfrey, a 12 year old slave, is charged with killing a 4 year old boy with a hatchet. Godfrey was convicted and executed. 7 7/8" X 5 7/8" (3) fold document in excellent condition.
