Trends tends to be more accurate for better date gold and just better dates in general

Strong EF details with a minor bend in the coin that is fixable.  "reverse graffiti" label on the coin refers to some scratches or scrapes you can see on the image. Better than it sounds.

Mintage only 18,992 with many melted.

Walter Breen from his Complete Encyclopedia of US and Colonial Coins page 531: "Usually weak in centers, much more on obv. then rev."

David Akers from his "United Staes Gold Coins An Analysis of Auction Records, Volume IV, Half Eagles 1795-1929," published in 1979 and out of print, states on page 100:

"Average Grade VF-29   Number of Appearance 55 (16%)  Comments: This underrated date is very scarce in all grades and is particularly hard to locate better than EF. As a date and in condiiton, it is even more rare than the lower mintage 1839-C.  Most specimens are soft on the hair curls around Liberty's face but the eagle is invariably sharp.  For years, both broad mill and naarrow mill varieties have been reported to exist.  However, I have only seen sesven broad mill coins and am therefore dubiouos of the existance of any speimens with narrow mill."
