1836 Virginia Slave Impressement for Service Road surveyor authorized to impress horse and carriages and slaves or servants to work on road...... Virginia Wythe County to wit Wheras Daniel Wilsiley surveyor of road from Staleys branch to Abram Steffeys line hath given me in formation that the assistance of wheel carriages is necessary for repairing said road I therefore empower the said Daniel Wisiley to impress such wheel carriages and horses with their gear and driver belonging to any person who or their servants or slaves are appointed to work on the said road he the said Daniel Wisiley having procured a valuation by the day to be made thereof by David Kinder & Abraham Weaver two honest housekeepers hereby appointed for that purpose who being sworn before me or some other Justice of the peace of this County are to make such valuation and give the owner or owners a certificate thereof to entitle him or them to an allowance for the same in the next county levy given under my hand august the 6th 1836 Jonas Hottel J.P.
