15816 Antique Rare Oak English Jacobean Blanket Chest

We are offering the most unusual item today. I believe it’s European, and it is a blanket chest with solid oak construction, all hand-cut dovetail, all hand chamfered bottoms, hand chamfered back, finished in a dark oak stain, that has to be seen to be believed. The back of this chest is actual beveled edge oak panels, not plywood. The sides have carving on the two bottom panels and notched molded on the top, with ovoid or egg-shaped knobs in the center. It has a wide beveled edge top, and there are the same ovoid carvings on the front with tombstone carving across the front. It then has three hand-cut dovetail drawers with a cutout base. It has multi-turned spindles along the sides, all drawers are picture frame paneled, and also carving applied. When the top is opened, it exposes a beautiful blanket box inside. I’m guessing it dates from the 1880s, but it still has the original hardware, and looks like an old version of a German piece. We have re-sprayed the top to correct and color match it, and the whole thing has been cleaned to glisten in person.  The overall size of the chest is 46 inches wide, 21 inches deep, and 44 inches high. The inside measures 41 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 15 inches high.
