An extraordinarily rare set of 12 sterling silver strawberry forks in Gorham's 1893 "Luxembourg" pattern. These forks are gilt and then enhanced with colorful enameling. This very ornate pattern lends itself to the enamel technique. The backs of the handles are nearly as decorative as the fronts. Originally intended for use in eating strawberries, these forks could easily be used for a range of hors d'oeuvres. The backs are stamped with Gorham's old hallmark. Gorham never produced enameled silver in large amounts, so finding a set of this quality is quite unusual. Origin: America, ca. 1895. Condition: excellent, period 1-letter monogram, gilding bright and completely intact, two forks have a 1/16" area of enamel flaking. Size: 4-11/16" long. Weight: 128.0 grams.
