06.5630 French Louis XV Inlaid Cylinder Desk
This desk is a 20th Century ABSOLUTELY STUNNING reproduction of the "Bureau du Roi Louis XV." No other desk is even close to this one in richness and in beauty. The desk is highlighted by heavy gilding, brass ormolu trim, intricate marquetry work, and Bombay sides. The gallery is decorated with brass figural cherubs. This desk is a reproduction of a François Linke desk which sells for around $500,000.
A brief history of this desk: The "Bureau du Roi" ('King's Desk'), known in France as the "Secrétaire à cylindre de Louis XV" ("Louis XV Roll-Top Secretary"), is the name given to the richly ornamented royal Cylinder desk whose construction was started under Louis XV and finished under Louis XVI of France. It is the most lavishly decorated desk ever made, surpassing even the huge corative "Kunstschrank" secretary desks of Germany.
