Nude painting The Maja Canvas in Frame reclining art nouveau woman goddess OLD

Unavailable

This is an old canvas copy of The Nude Maja by Francisco Goya, originally painted at around 1800. ( Thanks YourEggcellency~~)IT is said that the woman was romantically involved with Goya. In 1815, the Spanish Inquisition summoned Goya to reveal who commissioned him to create the "obscene" La maja desnuda, and he was consequently stripped of his position as the Spanish court painter.. Quite the controversy this painting caused to say the least.

This is in the old glassed in frame when we got it. Obviously not professionally matted, it has its original backing on the frame. As you can see when you hold it to the light you can see the canvas threading. I am not sure what this is, if it is a painting or print on canvas, but you can tell it is really old. The frame measures 8" x 12" and is antique brown wood. She is quite beautiful. Sold as found.
