Holy Bible Leather Bound Fine Binding 1861

From original sketches David Roberts,R.A.Glasgow printed by William Collins & Co.& sold by William Collins,203 Buchanan Street.MDCCCLXI (1861).More than 1275 pages , plus a dictionary at the end, aprox 39 tinted engravings with tissue guard. There are so many great things about this Bible, it truly is a work of art. The very heavy leather covers are deeply tooled & incised with black,4 raised bands on the spine with Gilt Title Stamping. The inside of the covers are glossy marbleized paper & the edges around the inside ate tooled with gold gilt .The three end leafs are gold gilt with highly embossed crosses. This is one of the most embellished Bible to come along in quite some time. It has everything going for it & more. The condition is very good , the leather is soft & subtle, This Bible was so cherished by its former caretaker for sure. The pages have some browning & spots,& the tissue guards have turned yellow from the color in the engravings .This is all very common with books of this age & yet I feel it is in such a remarkable state of preservation. This Bible must weigh about 10 pounds & it measures 14” L x 10 ¾”W x 3 ¼” H.
