California Modoc Indian basket, tray. In near mint condition, no damage do I see. If only this basket could talk, maybe was traded to One of the New Mexico Pueblos. Brought by one of our many transplanted Californios. The basket measures 10 inches by 19 inches. The colors are a little brighter on the back side, which is normal for baskets, as the light is mostly on the front. An unusual design for New Mexico, a snake symbol surrounded by circles, then a square in the middle. Ca. early 1900's, this is a quality museum piece. A credit to any collection.
