The aesthetic period (1868 to 1901) brought about some of the most unusual pieces .In the late 1800's, Darwin's controversial theories on evolution, as well as new botanical discoveries taking place, created quite an interest in the natural world. Personal adornments and vanity items reflected these new interests with jewelry created in forms of insects and animals. This creature has finger like appendages and they are banded in ornate sterling bands. Set on wood with a C clasp this  measures 1 1/2" long and is from the mid 1800's. Strange yet bizarre, this has never been offered for sale to the public prior to this.   VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our Etsy pieces regardless of which site it comes from.
