Blade of unusual form with scalloped convex axe blade and broad down-curved beak. Broad 8" thrusting blade with pronounced medial ridge. Axe blade etched with acanthus design with stippled background and double line border. Conical ferrule with decorative turned top and bottom edge, formed separately from the blade. Long side straps, one marked what appears to be an arsenal inventory number. Mounted on period octagonal shaft with textile cover, brass dome-head nails, and wool tassel. Metal lightly pitted and a small delamination chip on the bottom axe blade point on one side. Length of metal 28 1/4"; overall 86 1/4". Former Michael Inchbald Collection. Unusual style which we have never encountered before.
