Gilt brass hilt of typical form, featuring pierced foliage on the guard and laurel leaves on the pommel; with knucklebow and single scroll quillon. Sharkskin grip with twisted brass wire. Slightly curved 34" double-fullered blade, finely etched with foliage, stands of arms, "US", "E Pluribus Unum", and maker’s name "Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee/Mass" in script on the ricasso. Very good condition, showing typical wear from field use. Blade with some minor age staining and small patches of very light pitting, retaining a sharp edge with very small edge nicks; the etching sharp. Overall length 37 ½". No scabbard.
