Heavy 46 1/2" octagonal .82 cal. smoothbore barrel with standing backsight, stamped with a heart-shaped maker’s mark (Possibly the mark of John Silke, London, who made matchlock muskets from 1645-1660, probably for Parliament). Initials "RC" scratched into barrel near the breech. Unmarked flat rectangular lock with serpentine. Iron pan cover, trigger guard, and flat butt plate. Full stock with fish-tail butt, repaired and revarnished. Iron-tipped wood ramrod. Iron parts pitted and rust patinated. Overall length 62", weight 16 pounds. These early matchlock muskets are getting very hard to find and commanding high prices these days.
