The M1777 was made as the replacement for the M1763 and was widely used during the American and French revolutions until it was replaced during the Napoleonic Wars. Rather than the typical lock inset into a full stock, this model features a brass frame with iron cock, frizzen, and frizzen spring; frame marked "St. Etienne" in script. Tapering round 7 ½" barrel in .69 caliber, marked "M1777" in script on tang and stamped with inspection marks and the date number "80" for 1780. Walnut half stock stamped on obverse with "1777" for the model and "1780" for the date of manufacture. Brass trigger guard and butt cap; iron belt hook and tulip-head ramrod. Near fine cleaned condition with very sharp markings and just a few small patches of pitting on the barrel. Overall length 13 ½". Nice pistol with an American Revolutionary War date.
