Magnificently chiseled one-piece steel grip depicting a winged demon above a hellish
hound, surmounted by a dragon, all wrapped around a tree trunk; the crossguard
depicting a straight branch. Unmarked triangular-section 6 3/4" blade with square
ricasso. Overall length 10 3/8". Very good original condition with dark gray patina. The
misericorde had but one purpose and that was to dispatch its victim to the afterlife; in
this case, possibly to spend eternity with the creatures depicted on the hilt.
