Hachi of 34 plates,

featuring silver inlaid engraved floral decoration (nunome zogan) and characters reading "Hachiman", a Japanese deity associated with war. Fukigaeshi bearing the silver mon of the ancient Watanabe samurai clan. Attached peak (tsuke mabizashi) with applied decorated textile and crest of engraved shakudo with decorative copper fittings. Six ribbed neck lames (shikoro) with dark green silk lacing and orange knots on the lowest lame (hishi nui); the inside retaining most of its original orange lacquer. Top of bowl fitted with tube (tama buchi) of openwork shakudo and silver. Very good overall condition as mounted, showing normal age and wear.
