Helm consists of a rounded one-piece skull with a visor, upper bevor and bevor attached to it at either side by a pair of pivots capped with an 8-petaled rosette. The skull, which rises to a moderately high, roped medial comb, is fitted at the nape with a plume-holder of brass. The visor, which is shaped to the comb at its upper end and slopes forward to a broad, stepped vision slit, is flanged inwards at its lower edge to nestle within the top of the upper bevor, the flange being fitted for a lifting peg, now absent. The prow-shaped upper bevor is pierced with nine small, circular ventilation holes in rosette formation. The upper bevor and bevor were once secured to one another by a swivel-hook and pierced stud, now absent. The bevor, which is well shaped to the chin, is finished around the edge of its deep U-shaped face-opening with a rolled inward turn and features narrow etched bands around the edges. It is secured to the skull by a hook and pierced stud at the right of the neck. Attached to a flange on the lower edge of the bevor are three articulated lames with an inward turned roped edge at the bottom and simulated roping on the top edges of each lame. Two old, but later lames with roped bottom edge are attached to the bottom rear of the skull and are lightly etched to match. The helmet is finely etched with bands and borders of typical Milanese style with stipled background. The decoration shows some wear, particularly to the upper bevor. In much better condition than most examples and weighing nearly 8 pounds, the metal shows little corrosion, with a 1" split to the end of the bottom bevor flange, small losses to the ends of the front neck lames, and some tiny rust-through on the bottom front neck lame.
