8 ¼ x 12 1/8 - inch albumen print on 14 x 18 - inch board. The title and “12 ½” written on the board, verso, in an unknown hand. Similar to Watkins’ prints from his 1864 trip to Yosemite. Probably printed later. This is a superb example of Watkins’ composition and printing. The trees at left are rich purple with razor-sharp detail, while the looming mountain in the background, framed by trees, is distinct.
